Who We Are

We're Aaron & Lexie, the husband and wife duo behind Artifact Percussion. When we're not making gear in our basement workshop, you’ll find us outside climbing, hiking, traveling, or hanging out with our dogs, Josie and Snickers. Aaron is a percussionist and educator, teaching percussion at James Madison University, while Lexie brings her own creative vision and passion for craftsmanship to the business. Together, our love for percussion and our pursuit of better gear fuels everything we do.

Because gear should actually serve the people using it.

We started Artifact in 2014, while we were still in college, because we saw a problem: most percussion gear was either overpriced, under-built, or both. Even the "classic," go-to mallets that we all needed weren't all that great or reliable. And most of it was being sold at inflated prices. So we set out to do things differently.

We built Artifact from the ground up with no money, no space, and no clue how to run a business. But we had this idea - gear that was made to last at prices that actually make sense - and we weren't going to let it go.

So we did the research, learned a ton, figured out what worked (and what didn't), and - one pair at a time - we made that idea real. And in the process, we found a whole community full of the most amazing people that we probably never would have met without Artifact.

It's not just about sticks and mallets for us.

We believe in balancing profit with purpose, putting people first, and doing what’s right - even when it’s not the easy option. Everybody matters. And we want to make gear for everybody.

Artifact is for the everyday percussionist - the students, teachers, and performers who are shaping the arts in their local communities and pushing the boundaries of our art-form in meaningful ways. Our artist endorsers aren’t just names on a roster. They are performers and educators making a real difference, both in their own circles and in the percussion community as a whole. We support those who inspire others, and we strive to make high-quality gear accessible to every percussionist.

Every product is crafted by hand, sold directly to you, and backed by some of the best customer service in the industry. Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about making percussion gear. It’s about building something bigger than ourselves, making our community better, and helping people find their greatness.

Greatness starts here.

We adopted a motto early on that we'll always live by - sic parvis magna. It means "greatness from small beginnings."

We started from nothing and we're proud of where we've gotten so far. But we're still always reaching for something better. Always seeking greatness.

We hope we can help you chase your greatness too. One note at a time.

Welcome to team Artifact.
