Craig Mandelbaum

Craig Mandelbaum is a freelance percussionist and educator based in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. In addition, Craig is currently pursuing a master's degree is music Education from Kutztown University and continuing his percussion studies. Craig is the Graduate Assistant for the Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research at Kutztown University, the only museum and center devoted to mallet percussion history. As the graduate assistant, Craig has been researching various mallet percussionists, including Clair Omar Musser and the Green Brothers. One of Craig’s goals is to help teach young percussionists about the rich history of mallet percussionists that came before them.

Craig is currently the Principal Timpanist/Section Percussion for the Allentown Band, the oldest civilian wind band in the country. During his time with the Allentown Band, Craig has performed under many famous conductors, including Johan De Meij, John R. Bourgeois, and Ryan Nowlin. Craig has also performed xylophone solos with the band using antique instruments, combining his interests in performing and mallet percussion research.

As an educator, Craig has been the Front Ensemble Caption Head for the Nazareth High School Marching Band since 2018. During his time with the band, the band has won four championships and two high percussion trophies, including the highest percussion score in the circuit's recent history. During the winters, Craig is a Front Ensemble Tech for the Parkland High School Indoor Percussion Program.

Craig holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Craig’s teachers and mentors include Steve Mathiesen, Frank Kumor, and Matthew Coley.
