Ivan Aviles

Ivan Aviles is currently in his 10th year teaching instrumental music at Temecula Middle School where he teaches beginning, intermediate, and advanced level band courses as well as jazz band.Under his direction, his groups have won numerous awards including: 2017 esprit de corps award (music in the parks Santa Cruz Boardwalk), 2018- Gold rating, Heritage music festival (San Francisco), 2022- Sweepstakes Middle School Band, Music in the Parks. In 2022, the TMS Symphonic Band earned an invitation to perform at the California All State Music Education Conference. Given the success of his ensembles, it is no surprise that he was awarded TMS Teacher of the Year for the 2021-22 school year.

Ivan completed his Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from the University of Redlands where he was a member of Phi Mu Alpha, the national music fraternity. He earned the honor to perform in the 2009 President’s Honor Recital as a part of the University of Redlands Concerto competition, as the first percussionist to do so. Ivan completed his Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the American College of Education.

Prior to joining the Temecula Valley Unified school district, Mr. Aviles worked for the Redlands district for 8 years in various music-teaching capacities, including assistant music director for Cope Middle School, percussion instructor for Redlands High and Moore Middle, and Elementary Orchestra assistant. Mr. Aviles maintains an active schedule as a performing musician which includes playing percussion for the Temecula Valley Symphony, Coachella Valley Symphony, and Temecula Community theatre. Through the Temecula Valley Symphony, Mr. Aviles also works with the Youth Symphony, playing as needed and also mentoring percussion students. He is also active with the Temecula Valley High School theatre department where he plays percussion for smaller productions and conducts the pit orchestra for larger ones.
