Jess Simmons

Jess Simmons is a UK-based percussionist based in the Northwest of England. Originally from Sheffield, her musical journey began at the age of seven when she first picked up the drumsticks and later it expanded to orchestral percussion with the support of Sheffield Music Hub. She further honed her skills through the Sheffield Music Academy and the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra, preparing for her future studies in music.

In 2020, Jess embarked on her undergraduate degree at the University of Liverpool, studying BA Music and Hispanic Studies. After graduating in 2024, she remained at the University to pursue an MMus in Music Performance and Education, specializing in percussion under the guidance of Matthew Brett, principal percussionist of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She serves as principal timpanist of the University of Liverpool Symphony Orchestra, co-runs the University’s percussion ensemble, and performs in various ensembles, including productions for Liverpool University Student Theatre.

Jess is an active percussionist with both the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra and the Crosby Symphony Orchestra. She has also begun running her own business, offering guidance and resources for fellow percussionists. Looking ahead, she aspires to establish herself as a freelance percussionist, performing with orchestras and pit bands while sharing her expertise through teaching.

Jess is excited to begin this partnership with Artifact and looks forward to new musical opportunities ahead.
