Yibing Wang

Yibing Wang (Curtis BM ’18, Juilliard MM ’20, Boston University DMA ’25, percussion) is an internationally acclaimed classical percussionist renowned for her exceptional artistry, technical mastery, and captivating presence on both solo and orchestral stages. A highly sought-after performer, she regularly collaborates with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She is featured on the Grammy Award-winning Deutsche Grammophon recording of Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphonie with pianist Yuja Wang and on the Grammy-nominated recording of Shostakovich’s Shostakovich: Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District, both with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Throughout her career, Wang has performed extensively throughout the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Finland, Poland, Chile, and Argentina.

As a soloist, Wang has garnered widespread acclaim for her compelling performances of major contemporary works in the percussion repertoire, including Emmanuel Séjourné’s Marimba Concerto and Keiko Abe’s Prism Rhapsody, with the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, the Curtis Institute of Music Symphony Orchestra, and other ensembles. Her performances are recognized for their emotional depth and technical brilliance, earning her First Prize in the 2013 Percussive Arts Society International Solo Marimba Competition.

A passionate educator, Wang is committed to inspiring the next generation of musicians. In 2024, she joined the faculty of Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program (MAP). She has also presented master classes and lectures at institutions including the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Juilliard Pre-College, the Middle School Affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Fudan University. Her students have gone on to study at leading institutions, including Juilliard Pre-College, the Curtis Institute of Music, the New England Conservatory, and the University of Southern California.

Wang earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, where she studied with Don Liuzzi and Robert van Sice on full merit scholarships. She earned her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Daniel Druckman as a recipient of the Kovner Fellowship. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University, where she studied with Tim Genis.

Now based in New York City, Wang lives with her husband and their Australian Shepherd, Mocha. She continues to inspire audiences and students alike through her artistry, passion for music, and dedication to musical excellence.
