Miles Bohlman is a percussionist and music educator who currently resides in Iowa City, Iowa. He serves as professor of the percussion studio at St. Ambrose University, teaching both marching and concert percussion courses within the University. Miles is a third-year D.M.A. student studying percussion performance at the University of Iowa, and holds both the Iowa Performance Fellowship and a percussion teaching assistant position within the school of music. After receiving his music education degree from Illinois State University, he taught as Co-Director of Bands at Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Illinois. He has also served as a percussion technician and battery instructor in various programs across the midwest. As a performer, Bohlman has specialties in arranging guitar music for marimba, as well as in the contemporary music scene, a product of his time spent in the Missouri New Music Initiative at the University of Missouri and the University of Iowa Center for New Music as a research assistant. He has performed internationally, including in China, Ireland, Colombia, Argentina, and Greece. He has performed with the Quad Cities Symphony, Cavaliers Indoor Percussion Ensemble, American Gothic Performing Arts Festival Orchestra, Missouri Symphony, Chicago Brass Band, Ottumwa Symphony, and various ensembles within the Chicago area. Along with his current university positions, he is currently operating in Iowa City as a private instructor, composer, and performer. Miles has been fortunate to study with Drs. Megan Arns, David Collier, Ben Stiers, and Dan Moore in his university studies, and has learned from countless others, including Theodor Milkov, Jacob Harpster, Musikewa Chingodza, and Othnell ‘Mangoma’ Moyo.
