Matthew Timman

Matthew Timman is a percussionist currently based out of Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Timman received his Masters of Music in percussion performance from the Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio and Bachelors of Music from the University of Toledo. Currently, Mr. Timman is a doctoral student in Percussion Performance with a minor in Ethnomusicology under the tutelage of Dr. Norman Weinberg at the University of Arizona.

As an orchestral musician, Mr. Timman has performed throughout Arizona with numerous orchestras, including the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, Tucson Masterworks Chorale Orchestra, Tucson Repertory Orchestra. Mr. Timman currently serves as section percussionist with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and the Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra as well as extra percussion with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

An active advocate of contemporary music, Mr. Timman has had the opportunity to work with numerous key composers and performers during the course of his career including Stuart Saunders Smith, Steve Reich, John Luther Adams, George Lewis and the members of So Percussion Group.

​As an educator, Mr. Timman has experience in instructing students from kindergarten through college-aged. He has acted in various roles including private lessons instructor, ensemble coach, clinician, and classroom instructor of percussion pedagogy. Mr. Timman currently serves in the summer as percussion faculty for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lakes, MI.

Mr. Timman's principal teachers have included Jonathan Ovalle, Dr. Olman Piedra, Dr. Roger Schupp and Dr. Norman Weinberg. Additional private studies in orchestral literature performance have been undertaken with Homero Ceron (Principal Percussion, Tucson Symphony) and Shaun Tilburg (Principal Percussion, Phoenix Symphony). Mr. Timman is a member of the Local #33 of the American Federation of Musicians.

Mr. Timman is also an artist endorser of DREAM Cymbals and Gongs.
